What is Diode Laser Hair Removal?
Diode laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure designed to remove hair while preserving the skin. Suitable for all skin types, this treatment is performed under the guidance of experienced dermatologists. It provides long-term hair removal results with minimal discomfort to patients.
How does the Procedure Work?
Diode laser hair removal operates on the principle of ‘selective photothermolysis.’ By matching specific wavelengths of light to the treatment tissue, dermatologists target melanin in hair follicles. This precise targeting inhibits future hair growth, making it an effective and comfortable procedure. The diode laser is versatile, catering to both light and dark skin, ensuring superior melanin absorption.
Diode Laser: Face Hair Removal Laser
The diode laser, with its wavelength range of ~810 nm, stands out for its effectiveness in targeting specific pigment cells. It adapts to various skin and hair types, offering deep penetration and superior melanin absorption. This makes it the ideal technology for laser hair reduction, ensuring safe and efficient treatment for all body areas.
Speed and Efficacy:
Diode laser hair removal is renowned for its speed and efficacy. Quick and with minimal recovery time, it achieves a stable reduction in hair regrowth, proving to be a popular choice for its efficiency. In fact, a single session is often completed within an hour, showcasing its time-saving benefits.
Pre-Procedure:
Before your diode laser hair removal session, discuss your medical history, expectations, and potential risks with your doctor. Avoid other hair removal methods before the treatment and protect your skin from sun exposure for optimal results.
The Procedure:
The diode laser treatment begins with a test patch to ensure skin compatibility. Eye protection is provided, and the laser settings are adjusted based on your skin and hair color. The procedure involves cleaning and shaving the treatment area, administering local anesthesia if needed, and treating each area individually with the laser.
Post-Procedure Care:
After diode laser hair removal, expect some swelling or blistering, which usually subsides within 2-3 days. Use sunscreen, avoid waxing or plucking, and follow specific skincare recommendations provided by your doctor for optimal results.
When Will I See Results?
While smooth, hairless skin is noticeable after the first treatment, multiple sessions are essential for permanent hair reduction. Consistency is key, and after the three-month mark, you’ll witness a significant drop in hair growth, with progressive improvements after each session.
Why Multiple Sessions?
Hair grows in different stages, and the diode laser can only target hair in the anagen (growing) stage. Multiple sessions ensure the treatment reaches each hair follicle during its active phase, contributing to permanent hair reduction.
Treatment Duration:
Session duration varies based on the treatment area, hair density, and other factors. On average, larger areas take half an hour or longer, while smaller areas require as little as five to ten minutes. Most individuals need 4-6 sessions, spaced 6-10 weeks apart, for optimal results.
Diode Laser Hair Removal Cost:
The cost varies based on the treatment area, the number of sessions required, and other factors. Diode laser hair removal cost in India ranges from Rs.2000 to Rs.4500 per session. The personalized pricing reflects individual factors such as skin condition and treatment facility.
Benefits of Diode Laser Hair Removal :
Diode laser hair removal offers safer and deeper penetration, permanent hair reduction, finer regrowth, and effectiveness for all skin types. The longer wavelength of the diode laser enhances results, making it a preferred choice for many.
Pros and Cons: Diode Laser Hair Removal:
Pros include permanent hair reduction, suitability for various body areas, fewer ingrown hairs, adaptability to different skin types, and fast, effective results. Cons encompass the expense, potential effectiveness variations, and minimal after-effects if performed by an untrained professional.
Patience and Consistency :
Consistency is crucial for results. Timely appointments, as advised by your doctor, ensure each hair follicle has the opportunity to be treated in its active stage.
Personalized Treatment:
A personalized approach ensures tailored treatment for each individual. Your doctor monitors results after each session, adjusting the treatment plan as needed for the best outcomes.

IPL Laser Hair Reduction
– IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is safest and most advanced technology for permanent Hair reduction. Its unique filtering system is safer and gentler on the skin, and helps to cover the larger areas which puts standard of treatment as best in the class.
The visible light from the flashlamp is guided via a glass prism to the hairy area. Hair contains pigment (melanin) that absorbs the light and converts it into heat. This heat is led through the hair into the hair follicle which is then destroyed and rendered unable to produce a new hair.
To ensure optimal light transmission to the hair a thin layer of gel (similar to that used in ultrasound) is applied to the skin. The hand held applicator is then slid over the entire treatment area by moving it exactly one width after each flash of light.
As the treatment relies on absorption of light in the hair pigment (melanin) the most efficient treatment is seen with dark hair. The lighter the skin the more effective the separation is between hair and skin colour making treatment easier.
The glass prism of the applicator which guides the light to the skin is 1 cm by 5 cm so a large number of hairs are targeted in one flash of light. A facial treatment takes around 20 minutes where as on the back or both legs take 60 to 120 minutes.
No anaesthetics are required and most people describe the sensation as similar to that of a rubber band snapping onto the skin. Skin may feel warm and tingle slightly after treatment. Most clients tolerate the procedure well.
The light is a completely safe, visible light so no special precautions are needed. However, it is important not to remove hair by epilation or waxing 4 weeks before treatment to ensure that as many hair follicles as possible contain a hair and thus can be destroyed by the light. Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin it is also important to avoid tanning before and during the treatment sessions. Otherwise the skin will also absorb the heat which makes treatment less effective. Generally no post-treatment is necessary but people with very sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing cream for a few days. It is also recommended to limit sun exposure and to use sun screen (SPF 20 ) for a few weeks following treatment.
Hair growth is cyclical as hair follicles go through resting and growing phases. Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair and are destroyed by the heat. Resting hair follicles need to enter the growth phase before they can be destroyed by the treatment. It is, therefore, necessary to repeat the treatment at intervals until all hair follicles have been through the growth phase.
The length and timing of the growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body site, hair density, thickness, ethnic origin, hormonal status and age. Usually 3-6 treatments are need and the intervals between treatments are typically 1-3 months.
